A week later Little Feat played a one-hour set at the Dutch Pinkpop festival, officially released on LIVE IN HOLLAND 1976. Check out Cold>Dixie>Tripe. More than 20 minutes of musical delight.

    • Too true, Oldman24! The high standard of that official cd/dvd release is one reason I have high hopes for the Charlton cd. The Feats were cooking on stage in ’76, before that more polished and synthesizer-based sound overcame them in ’77. I have always thought the official ‘Waiting for Columbus’ live album (and expanded reissues) is overrated. The real deal is in recordings like Holland ’76! (and incredible ensemble musicianship like on the live ‘Eldorado Slim’ from the 1973 Aurora Backseat bootleg. Holy 🐮!!)

      • Just an update. An excellent release from Zion. This Feat recording is a solid SB5, with one small cut and just a little tape deterioration toward the end of the show. (plus inaudible lead vocals on ‘Oh Atlanta.’) And a great performance – looser than the official Holland ’76 recording, but equally strong! I particularly like the renditions of ‘On your Way Down’ and ‘Day or Night.’ (both of which were not performed at the Holland show.) I hope Zion releases some more classic Feat shows on silver disc!

  2. Feat on silver!
    • Pros
    • Little Feat soundboard on cd
    • Cons
    • None!

It is great to see Little Feat getting a rare live release on silver disc! And a pre-1977 show at that. The ’77 tour gets a lot of critical acclaim, but many Feat fans prefer their earlier years, when their sound had a bit more grit and dirty funk in the groove. I think their live performances peaked in 75-76, so this should be a hot show. I just hope it is an A+ soundboard recording, and not one of those dull and hissy ones … Does anyone have any info on the sound quality for this release?

    • Totally agree with your Little Feat comments. They were really on top of their game in the mid-70s. Warner Records just recently reissued Sailing Shoes and Dixie Chicken with additional outtakes and live material. Now I’m wondering if the Charlton 1976 show is being prepped for a future deluxe edition. If not, then at least we’ll have Zion-249.

      • I am glad you share my enthusiasm for mid-70’s Feat, Wgpsec! That is a good point about a possible deluxe edition prep – this show would make a nice bonus disc for a reissue of ‘The Last Record Album.’ And if this tape is a leak from the Warner archive, that probably guarantees stellar sound quality. Fingers crossed anyway!🤞
